We talked with Micheal over the phone and email, getting some very detailed pictures and dimensions of the available storage compartment where batteries and other equipment would be installed, as well as measurements of his roof. Based on Michael’s measurements, we estimated we could fit 1000W of solar and 4 batteries. The only issue was that the batteries would need to be split between two different compartments on opposite sides of the RV. To properly install a battery bank that is spread more than a couple feet apart requires a busbar and individual cable run for each. Once we confirmed the fit and placement of equipment, we scheduled his install. Michael drove his RV to us and then rode home on his motorcycle.

During the installation, we found a perfect spot to add an Orion DC-DC Charger to charge the house batteries while driving. This was not part of the initial plan, as DC-DC chargers can sometimes take quite a bit of work to install, but given the ease of installation in this case, it was a no-brainer. After a week, we had the Victron equipment, batteries, and solar panels installed, as well as a soft start on the AC unit. We tested shore, generator, solar, and alternator charging. With all systems go, Michael hopped on his bike and headed south to pick up his RV, and get an in depth orientation on how to use his solar system.
